"Charlie Chan in Honolulu", 1938, is the first portrayal of the popular Chinese detective by Sidney Toler and Number Two Son by Victor Sen Yung replacing Keye Luke. This mystery is more comedy than anything else. This is the first and probably the only time when you get to see Chan's wife. I will say that the character pulling on the lion's tail and walking next to it looked pretty damn risky. The picture is only 107 minutes long and puts a lot into it. There is a lot of corn humor here but no one expected the actors to be doing Shakespeare.
