Having only seen it in childhood, it was a little surprising to watch it again, surprising because it was so ridiculous and even immoral. Cinderella's family are extremely flat characters who have less presence than their cat, and their nastiness is an utter caricature and left unexplained. The main male character, the prince, is flatter than a pancake and falls in love after seeing and dancing with a woman once! (what message does that send to girls about men?) Worst of all is the main message, namely that hope begets magic which begets results; obviously false. The most enjoyable characters were the mice!
