Positives: Portrays both the consciousness and blindness to racism of various levels of white society. By the end, some of the characters have started evolving. To me, Dennis Hopper has a pivotal role.
Negatives: Way too long, cluttered with drawn out non-productive scenes. Exaggerated acting by McCambridge and Dean.
Humorous: The facial and hair make-up to show aging of the characters is unconvincing and their bodies and physical agility do not change. I guess this was normal for 1956.
