Black Family Joy

A list of positivity-focused picture story books celebrating of the black experience - highlighting the many ways love shows up in a family. At SFPL, we are committing to prioritize race and identity conversations not only during Black History Month but all year-round to reflect and serve our diverse community. This is only a tiny slice of books available - use the powers of a search engine to find Black authors and illustrators (often times working together!) to create beautiful books for young people. This list was created during the COVID-19 epidemic of 2020, during which our library doors were physically closed. We tried to add as many ebook options as we could, but keep in mind that not all children's books have been published to ebook format yet.
